World Cyber Games (WCG) and The Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) have come together to form a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration demonstrates both parties’ intent to enter into a partnership for the advancement, promotion, development and protection of grassroots Esports.

World Cyber Games (WCG) is one of the well-known and biggest international Esports competitions worldwide with major multi-game titles. With the tournament making a comeback soon, this MoU is of significant importance to AESF’s mission to grow an Esports ecosystem, collaborate with publishers and provide a platform for Esports athletes to compete at various international competitions across the continent.

WCG and AESF will collaborate to ensure that Esports is accessible and widespread for everyone, with the aim of creating a positive impact on Esports’ popularity and well-balanced platforms from the grassroots to the highest tier, which is the professional Esports scene. Through a highly accessible platform like WCG, Esports fans can expect to be more connected than ever before to their favourite professional gaming athletes or teams.

The partnership details AESF and WCG’s efforts to work towards the support of Esports competitions, teams, athletes and education programs organised by both parties. AESF will also provide consultation support for the selection of game titles for WCG and to promote the WCG Grand Final as a global competition in the five continents.

In 2023, the Asian Games in Hangzhou will see Esports at its highest level of competition in Asia thus far. Together with WCG, AESF intends to develop tournaments that will be the anchor for many more events in the future, and can easily be traced back to the Olympic Esports movement.

WCG and the AESF will also collaborate for any future Esports conferences, forums and events that will assist in the growth of Esports at the grassroots level. Furthermore, to aid Esports education, this MoU will enable internship opportunities for AESF University Partner students in the industry to boost the future stability of Esports.

“This is a partnership with purpose that leverages on WCG’s significant experience in organizing tournaments to realize the AESF’s goal of developing grassroots and education initiatives in Esports, as well as expanding our reach throughout and beyond Asia,” said Sebastian Lau, Director General of AESF.

KwangJun Song, CEO of Bigpicture Interactive, said, “WCG has been a positive influence in the global Esports industry for 20 years. AESF has also contributed to building a high-quality esports infrastructure and has provided various experiences to gamers. Therefore, WCG plans to expand the grassroots esports experience to global gamers through MOU with AESF, and will continue various activities to raise the quality of lives of global gamers."
