The Game Awards là sự kiện thường niên được tổ chức bởi Geoff Keighley, nơi ngành công nghiệp trò chơi điện tử và người hâm mộ tụ hội để cùng giới thiệu các IP mới, tìm kiếm tài trợ và trao cúp cho các tựa game xuất sắc của năm. Năm nay, 107 tựa game có tên trong các hạng mục của chương trình, dẫn đầu là Death Stranding với tám đề cử, theo sau là Control với bảy đề cử.

Các đề cử đã được chọn bởi hội đồng giám khảo gồm 80 tổ chức và phương tiện truyền thông có tầm ảnh hưởng. Sau giai đoạn đề cử, tựa game chiến thắng được chọn thông qua phiếu bầu của người hâm mộ.
